About the Book

Have you ever been so desperate that without a miracle, a divine intervention, you simply would not survive?

Jewelie knows this place all too well. She found herself facing one extreme challenge after another when she was expecting her firstborn son, Ryvers. Born into a world of silence, Ryvers’ life swiftly spiraled down into complete darkness. If it wasn’t already overwhelming enough for a single mother to raise a deaf and blind son, the unraveling of many more disabling diagnoses, complicated surgeries, and near-death encounters was nothing short of insurmountable.

Rivers of Miracles is the miraculous true story of a mother’s heart-rending journey of love, tenacity, and faith in a God she couldn’t see, but Whose presence has been very real in her world. Only by her resilient trust in God was Jewelie able to navigate through these harsh realities.

No matter how challenging your circumstances may look, this book will build your faith to see the invisible that opens the flow to experience the impossible. You’ll be greatly encouraged as you witness how Ryvers’ life has indeed been a steady stream of incredible miracles … rivers that have not stopped flowing yet!

THEMES OF MINISTRY

  • Faith: an account of life-challenging miracles that encourages everyone to believe in impossibilities and reveals a God who is personal and alive for each of us. Miracle tapestry.
  • Pro-life: a living testimony that babies and children have a God-given right to life, standing on the sixty-six Bibles verses which emphasize life over death.
  • Personal testimony: a powerful life testimony of facing shame, overcoming fear, and living to testify.
  • Church family/interpersonal ministry: the powerful impact of the anointing of church members on those who are hurting, broken, and disabled; the role of the church to families with medically, physically, and emotionally-challenging disabilities and needs.  (The dose of hope, the love factor, the beauty you see when you accept the imperfections in me.)
  • Consistency/faithfulness/endurance: how to work the Word of God and not grow weary when you don’t see the expected results; how to stand when you’ve stood and stood; understanding the faithfulness of the Spirit of God; understanding that quitting is not an option; changing the way you see, not what is staring at you.
  • Church leadership training: understanding the biblical responsibility of the church to special needs families; maintaining order for troubled, desperate people who live in chaos and need the peaceful order of the church.  (Outline by Dr. Mark T. Barclay and Jewelie Shukla: encouraging versus enabling, trust versus dependency, spiritual versus comfortable; standing up versus being held up.)
  • The power of praise: singing in the rain!  Worshiping the truth when circumstances are lying to you; looking for the light when darkness surrounds you.  Resilient and remnant: I didn’t sign up to fight in the war, but I am a soldier.
  • To everyone else who is in the time of battle and things look hopeless, listen to Jewelie, her heart, and her faith; and turn to her God (Whom I pray is also your God) until you also experience the joy of YOUR victory and YOUR manifested miracle, in Jesus’ name!

  • This is an incredible story of compassion, connection, confidence and courage. This family’s story will inspire all who read it to view our problems and challenges with a proper Spiritual Perspective.

    Dr. Lonnie Brown

  • Ryvers’ story is riveting, his life a miracle, his testimony—passionate for God. Those who read this will find themselves hungering to know this “God of life,” praying with great faith, seeking the fellowship of a “real church family.”
